Medical And Dental Care
The base was tasked with developing, maintaining and testing missiles in response to the Soviet Cold War threat. The base became a center for new missile technology and development. Over the next several years Elgin AFB established ten different test sites for new flight systems and training maneuvers.
All ten of these sites are still in use today and can be found around the station. Each site is named after a century-old American war hero. Elgin Air Force Base was originally established in 1935 as the Valparaiso Bombing and Gunnery Base.
